SRINAGAR: Five labourers were killed and another injured ina terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district on Tuesday. All of them were non-Kashmiris, police said.
The incident came a day after terrorists shot a truck driverin Anantnag district and targeted people waiting at a bus stand in Sopore. Earlier in the afternoon, terrorists had fired indiscriminately at paramilitary personnel deployed at a school in Pulwama district. "We have rushed a police party headed by the Deputy Inspector General of SouthKashmir," Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Dilbag Singh told, adding that multiple bodies have been recovered.
According to news agency, all the victims belonged to murshidabad district in West Bengal. The attack occurred on a day when adelegation of European Union parliamentarians is visiting Jammu and Kashmir toget first-hand knowledge of the situation there. Security forces have cordoned off the areaand launched a massive search operation. Additional security forces have alsobeen called in. Further information is awaited.
Terrorists have been targeting truck drivers and labourersbelonging to other states ever since the centre stripped Jammu and Kashmir ofits special status through a presidential order on August 5. Earlier in theday, armed men had entered the rented residence of another Bengali labourer in Kulgam's Katrasoo village and shot him in the leg. The victim, Zahuruddin, wassaid to be out of danger.
As many as four non-local truck drivers were shot dead byterrorists across Kashmir between October 14 and 28. In the most recent case,which occurred on Monday, they killed an Udhampur resident who was transportingapples through Anantnag.
